Meet Your Stylist

I’m Josie, the owner and artist behind Cult Hair Studio, and I’ve been behind the chair for over 14 years. Hair wasn’t always the plan for me, but somewhere along the way it became the thing that gave me a creative outlet, a career, and eventually the freedom to build something that was completely my own. Growing up, I was always a little different. I was drawn to things that were darker, unconventional, and outside of what everyone else considered “normal.” I never really felt like I fit into one specific box, and for a long time I felt like the black sheep because of it. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned that the things that made me different are actually the things that make me who I am. That has played a huge part in the hairstylist I’ve become. Over the years, I’ve learned that I’m happiest when I’m creating. I specialize in vivid and creative color, color corrections, precision cuts, and extensions, and I’m a Danger Jones Elite Expert. I love transformations, unconventional color placements, lived-in shapes, and anything that lets me think outside the box. But my favorite appointments are the ones where a client gives me an idea and then says, “I trust you.” That creative freedom is everything to me. Hair is art, but it’s also incredibly personal. The way we wear our hair can be part of our identity, our confidence, and how we choose to show the world who we are. That’s one of the biggest reasons I do what I do. My goal isn’t just to give you beautiful hair. I want you to feel beautiful. I want you to feel confident. And most importantly, I want you to feel comfortable being completely yourself. I know what it feels like to grow up feeling different, and I never want someone sitting in my chair to feel like they need to tone themselves down, fit in, or become someone they’re not.

At the same time, I take the technical side of my work seriously. A beautiful color means nothing if the integrity of your hair is destroyed in the process. I’m big on thorough consultations, realistic expectations, hair health, proper maintenance, and educating my clients on what I’m doing and why I’m doing it. Sometimes getting to your dream hair is one appointment, and sometimes it’s a journey—and I’ll always be honest with you about that. I created Cult Hair Studio because I wanted to do hair differently. It’s a private, one-on-one studio where I can slow down, focus completely on the person in my chair, and give every appointment the attention it deserves. I don’t believe in rushing through clients or treating hair like an assembly line. I want you to feel comfortable asking questions. I want you to understand your hair. I want us to collaborate. And I want you to leave my studio feeling more confident than when you walked in—whether that means enhancing what you already have or completely reinventing yourself. I’ve spent 14+ years learning, evolving, making mistakes, continuing my education, and pushing myself creatively. I don’t think you ever reach a point in this industry where you know everything, and that’s part of what I love about it. There’s always another technique to learn, another challenge to figure out, and another way to grow as an artist.

I may have a darker aesthetic and an unconventional style, but you don’t have to look like me to sit in my chair. Cult Hair is for anyone who wants great hair, honest guidance, and a stylist who genuinely cares about the work I put out and the person wearing it. Because at the end of the day, I don’t want to change who you are. I want to help you feel confident enough to show more of it. Come as you are. Bring me your ideas—or give me creative freedom and let’s make something beautiful together. Be weird. Be different. Be YOU. 🖤

People say it feels like a museum.

Taxidermy, oddities, and a horror movie running on the TV — unless you’d rather it didn’t. There’s a form before your first appointment that asks what you’re into, because you’re going to be in that chair for four to six hours and it should be your four to six hours. Snacks and drinks are on me.

Everyone is welcome in that chair.

Cult Hair is a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community, and for anyone who’s ever felt looked at sideways in a salon. That includes clients who’ve been coming for a decade and have no interest in green hair. The aesthetic is mine, but the chair is yours.

The work.

How it works.

  1. Tell me what you want

Fill out the form. Photos help, but I won’t quote from them — I need to see your hair.

  2. Come in for a consult

$20, in person, applied to your service. I will look at your hair’s history and tell you what’s actually achievable and how long it’ll take.

  3. Book it and hold it

A deposit secures the chair — it’s non-refundable and it comes off your service. For extensions, hair gets ordered about a week and a half out. Payment plans available through Afterpay and Klarna.

  4. Leave knowing how to keep it

Every new client goes home with written aftercare, product recommendations, samples, and a rebooking date.

Questions, answered straight.

Do you do virtual consults?

No — I need to actually see your hair. Photos help, but it’s impossible to quote or say what’s achievable without it in front of me. Consults are $20, in person, and the fee comes off your service.

Can you get me there in one session?

Sometimes — if your hair’s history allows it. But I’ll never promise one-and-done. Depending on where you’re starting from, plan on two or three sessions, twelve weeks between lightening, with color refreshes in between. You’ll hear your personalized plan at the consult.

How do deposits work?

Once you book, you have 24 hours to pay the deposit — that’s what holds the chair. It’s non-refundable, and it comes off your service. For extensions, part of it goes toward ordering your hair.

Do you take payment plans?

Yes — Afterpay and Klarna both work here. Bigger extension appointments can also be split into a down payment and a final payment on the day.

What extensions do you install?

K-tips and sew-ins. Your hair gets ordered about a week and a half before the install so it’s guaranteed to arrive, and maintenance runs every four to six weeks.

What’s the appointment actually like?

Big color runs four to six hours, so it should be your four to six hours. Before your first visit you’ll fill out a short form about what you’re into — the movie on the TV, the music, all of it. Snacks and drinks are on me, and you leave with written aftercare, product samples, and your rebooking date.
